A touring theatre company is preparing for the premiere of a rather raggedy production - a play entitled Nothing On. There is very little time left. The budget is limited. The technical crew trimmed. The director tired. And the actors? Well—if it's already a problem to even remember the text during the dress rehearsal, how do you deal with two tempestuous romances, the short-sightedness of a young starlet, a constantly deteriorating set and a perpetually disappearing doyen who, in addition, seriously abuses alcohol? Is it possible to work under such conditions? It is certainly impossible not to laugh.
The structure of Noises Off is based on the depiction of theatre within theatre. The author assumed that a peep into the backstage running around, everything you don't usually see in theatre, is just as interesting as the action of the performance itself. Consequently, the viewer gets a two-in-one. And he or she is watching a performance within a performance. Noises Off is a cult play, called the funniest farce ever written. It's a wonder that it has never been produced before in the most recognisable comedy theatre in Poland.
