Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost is a British music group that was formed in 1988 in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The band is considered one of the pioneers of doom metal and is among the founders of the gothic metal subgenre. Over the years, their musical style has evolved significantly, combining elements of doom metal, death metal, gothic rock, and electronic music.

Their debut album, Lost Paradise, was released in 1990 and featured characteristics of doom/death metal. Subsequent releases such as Gothic (1991) and Shades of God (1992) further developed the dark and melancholic atmosphere that became a hallmark of the band. In 1995, the band released the album Draconian Times, which achieved commercial success.

In the second half of the 1990s, Paradise Lost moved away from their metal roots and began experimenting with electronic and synthetic elements. Albums such as One Second (1997) and Host (1999) reflected this shift. The band later partially returned to their metal origins, once again incorporating heavier guitar passages with a gothic atmosphere in their work.
