A piece based on fragments from Other People, the newest book by Dorota Masłowska, one of the most insightful writers of the Polish young generation. The play tells the story of an affair between Kamil, a 32-year-old lowlife aspiring to a career as a hip-hop musician, and Iwona, a representative of the metropolitan middle class, experiencing a marital crisis. This setting serves as a pretext for reflection on the vulgar, yet poetic language soaked in pop culture used by Masłowska’s characters, which prevents them from establishing authentic relationships.

The individual slangs of the leading and supporting characters combine to create a fascinating musical phonosphere, the aura of the big city. The perspective discussed in Other People takes root in the following questions: are we the ones who speak the language, or has the language taken control of us? Is there a realm of non-verbal communication that we can become aware of and reflect upon in any way? How does creativity shape the field of language?
