The screening of “Come to Daddy” directed by Ant Timpson as part of the New Cinematic Movies series at Octopus Film Festival 2019.
When raised by his mother Norval (Elijah Wood) reaches the home of his long-lost father, he quickly realizes that an apple sometimes it can go really far from an apple tree. While he is an emotionally distracted hipster in his thirties who loves to talk about his emotions and is very attached to a gilded iPhone, his father epitomizes the type of an elderly, hard and intolerant weakness of the American loner. Norval knows something is out of place, but he can not quite understand why a meeting after years does not follow his expectations. The above description may suggest that “Come to Daddy” is a family drama. The truth is quite different, but describing the further development of events from this completely blown movie would kill all the pleasure of the screening. Suffice it to say that the debutant Ant Simpson is rather inspired by films by Quentin Tarantin than by Hallmark’s schedule, and Elijah Wood proves once again that guarding rings is not his only talent.
