Screening of the documentary film about Barney Rosset, legendary publisher of Grove Press and Evergreen Review, who destroyed American literary censorship through the publication and subsequent trials of the notorious novels Tropic of Cancer, Naked Lunch, and Last Exit to Brooklyn. Astrid Myers Rosset and Sandy Gotham Meehan, creators of the documentary, will introduce the film which depicts Rosset’s rebellious life painted by Barney at the end of his life on a large wall of his loft in the Village. A dazzling crew of famous New York artists, musicians, and authors supply the commentary and music.
After the screening, there will be a discussion with Michael Cunningham and Michael March about the freedoms let loose in the sixties, inspired by Barney Rosset’s extradinary work.
