Muzeum Sztuki Medalierskiej we Wrocławiu

The Museum of Medallic Art was established in 1965. Since 2000, it has functioned as a branch of the City Museum of Wrocław. It is the only institution in Poland specialising in the collection of medals and frillery. Its extensive collection of Polish and foreign (mainly European) works, accumulated for over 40 years, currently numbers some 50,000 medals, medallions and plaques, as well as orders, decorations and badges. The most numerous part of the collection is made up of Polish or Polish-related works from the 16th century to the present day. An almost complete collection of orders and decorations, as well as the richest collection of post-war medals in the country, should be singled out here. A separate collection consists of several hundred Silesian medals from 1945 onwards, with a decided predominance of medals from Wrocław presenting events and figures that once influenced the development of the city. The Museum also has a rich documentation of the works of Polish and foreign sculptors involved in medal-making. Until 2005, the Museum was located in the baroque building "Under the Golden Sun", situated in the Market Square. Since 2009, the Museum has been located in the renovated Royal Palace.
