Study and Documentation Centre Norbertov
Situated close to Villa Müller on Nad Hradním vodojemem Street in the Old Střešovice conservation area, the house No. 53 is today the seat of the Norbertov Study and Documentation Centre of Modern Architecture. In connection with two prominent villas located nearby – Villa Müller and Villa Rothmayer – the centre seeks to promote modern architecture in Prague during the interwar and post-war periods, housing culture, applied arts, and lifestyle which each of the villas presents in its own way. While Villa Müller ranks among the best examples of modern European architecture, mostly because of its interiors and the architect Adolf Loos, Villa Rothmayer still waits to be discovered by the general public.
There is an exhibition hall on the ground floor of the Norbertov centre which will hold exhibitions and lectures to present themes and personalities connected with the two villas. Furthermore, discussions, lectures, workshops and other events focusing on better understanding of modern architecture and culture will be organised for the general public and professionals. Norbertov’s repository will store the items from the two villas which are not displayed, the archives with documentary materials from the reconstruction of the two buildings, the results of research of the works by Adolf Loos in the Czech lands, and a professional library. A study room to research archival materials and professional literature is on the first floor.
