Museum of Central Bohemia

The Central Bohemian Museum in Roztoky near Prague is located in the grounds of Roztoky Castle and Brauner's Mill, located on the left bank of the Vltava near Prague. Since its establishment in 1957, it has been creating extensive archeological, natural history, historical, art-historical and ethnographic collection funds, the importance of which goes beyond the region of Central Bohemia. In the field of movable cultural heritage care, it is known for its specialized and one-of-a-kind conservation and restoration workplaces, whose services are used by other museums and other institutions as well as private individuals.

The grounds of the Roztock Castle hide a number of architecturally interesting and historically valuable spaces, where exhibitions, cultural and educational programs, social events and wedding ceremonies are held all year round. The castle is surrounded by a park established in the 19th century (today a heritage-protected area), with rare trees, enriched with older and contemporary sculptural works.

Within the castle walls, it is possible to visit two permanent exhibitions: The administration of the manor, or how the manager lived and worked, evokes the atmosphere of the private premises of the manager of the estate from the time of the Liechtensteins, Life in a resort, or how one went to Roztok for a summer apartment, then the environment of summer residences from the turn of the 19th century. and the 20th century.

The Brauner mill complex is located just a few steps from the castle. The permanent exhibition in the Studio of Zdenka Braunerová , whose life and work are closely connected with Roztoky, brings closer the work, personal life of the painter and the genius loci of the place in which this artist created and met personalities of Czech and European culture. The painter had her studio built in the immediate vicinity of the family villa, the so-called Brauner's mill, where the museum's directorate is located today.
