Murcof
Mexican musician Fernando Corona, aka Murcof, will perform at the Akropolis Palace on February 4, 2026.
Mexican musician Fernando Corona, aka Murcof, has spent the last two decades exploring the intersections between contemporary club music and avant-garde classical music. He can be counted among the classics of the IDM genre, combining elements of ambient, drone music, minimalism, and industrial in his work.
Fernando Corona has been involved in music since the late 1980s, playing in rock and jazz bands, but his electronic alter ego Murcof was born at the beginning of the millennium, when he began sampling modern classical music compositions and mixing them with minimal techno. After his initial fascination with British progressive rock, he discovered Iannis Xenakis and György Ligeti, and also cites composers from the former Soviet Union who were in conflict with the power structure, such as Giya Kancheli, Sofia Gubaidulina, and Alfred Schnittke, as further influences. He attracted significant attention with his 2002 debut Martes, on which he combines electronics with Latin American tradition. He has recorded and performed with trumpeter Erik Truffaz and pianist Vanessa Wagner, among others, and is without exaggeration one of the most original creators of electronic and ambient music.
