Ja, Michał z Montaigne

Television staging of a play based on Michel de Montaigne's biography, written by Józef Hen in 1978. The fate of the protagonist is presented against the background of a political panorama of 16th-century France. In his book, Hen tried to present both information about the writer's work and life, as well as his own interpretation of many fragments of Montaigne's works. What is interesting, he adopted the style of the Frenchman, thanks to which the form of the biography also corresponds to its content. In the play, the old Montaigne plays house theatre: he prepares a performance about himself and plays himself in it. He reminds us of his own past and the most dramatic episodes in French history - the night of St Bartholomew, the struggle of the Hugonots and Catholics, the fall of the Valetians, the victory of Henry Bourbon. He does not hesitate to reveal to the viewer the intimate sphere of his privacy. The title role was played by Gustaw Holoubek, and the role of Margarita Joanna Trzepiecińska.
