MGMT

MGMT is an American neo-psychedelic/alternative rock band formed in 2002 in Middletown, Connecticut. It was founded by singers and multi-instrumentalists Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser.

Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden formed the band while attending Wesleyan University during their freshman year. They experimented with noise rock and electronica before settling on their current sound. The band then released two demo albums, We (Don't) Care and Climbing to New Lows. VanWyngarden and Goldwasser graduated in 2005 and toured extensively in support of the Time to Pretend EP released in the same year, opening for indie pop band of Montreal.

In the autumn of 2006 the band has been signed to Columbia Records. The duo recorded with music producer Dave Fridmann in 2007 for their major label debut, Oracular Spectacular. The album was promoted with three singles: Time to Pretend, Electric Feel and Kids. In 2012, Rolling Stone ranked the album at number 494 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

MGMT's second album Congratulations was released in 2010. The album marks a departure from the synth-pop style of their debut, and features a more psychedelic, progressive and guitar-driven sound. Their third album MGMT came out in 2013. In 2018 the band released Little Dark Age – the band's first album of new material in nearly five years. The album was produced by the band with Patrick Wimberly and Dave Fridmann. It features songwriting collaborations with Wimberly, Ariel Pink or Connan Mockasin. The album received positive reviews from music critics and peaked at #35 on the Billboard 200.

On October 31, 2023, MGMT released the first single from their sixth album Loss of Life titled Mother Nature. The album was released on February 23, 2024.
