Marta Gardolińska

Polish conductor, music director of the Opéra national de Lorraine (she is the first ever woman to head the institution, which has been in existence since 1758). Born in 1988 in Warsaw, she lives in Vienna by day. She graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, studying conducting with Szymon Kawalla. She continued her studies at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna and The Monteux School for Conductors and Orchestral Musicians in Maine. She has worked with an innumerable list of institutions, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, NOSPR, Orchestre de Chambre de Paris at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

He also specializes in operatic repertoire - starting with his bravura debut in October 2020, in the premiere production at the Opera National de Lorraine of Der Traumgörge, to the highly critically acclaimed production of Carmen, which she conducted at the Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg in December 2021. From 2013 to 2015, she served as second conductor at Johann-Strauss-Operette Wien, where she was able to gain insight into the Viennese musical tradition. As assistant conductor to Tadeusz Kozlowski, she participated in the discovery of forgotten opera works by Polish composers: Legenda Bałtyku by F. Nowowiejski and Manru by I.J. Paderewski.
