Maria Peszek
Maria Peszek is a singer, songwriter, performer and actress. For ten years of her acting activity she has played with the most important theatre and film directors, creating a number of award-winning roles. She worked, among others, with Jerzy Grzegorzewski, Piotr Łazarkiewicz, Agnieszka Holland, Jerzy Stuhr, Kazimierz Kutz and Krystian Lupa. She was an actress at the Studio Theatre in Warsaw. Since 2005 she has concentrated mainly on music creation, which has turned out to be her true passion.
She has released four solo albums: miasto mania (2005), Maria Awaria (2008), Jesus Maria Peszek (2012), Karabin (2016). Each of them caused a storm and at the same time turned out to be an artistic and commercial success, which made Maria Peszek one of the most important figures of the Polish music scene. Described as a "concert animal", she has played over 400 enthusiastically received concerts in Poland and abroad and at the most important Polish and European festivals. Winner of prestigious awards such as: Paszport Polityki, Fryderyki, Gazeta Wyborcza's Wdech and Przekrój's Fenomen. The author of poignant and uncompromising lyrics touching upon the subjects of Polishness, traditional social roles, often shaking the Polish public opinion. The singer clearly and openly expresses her views, is able to strike with words and wants to draw attention to situations which not everyone has the courage to approach from a purely artistic perspective.
