This is one of the situations when musicians return to their roots in order to look for something new and fresh in the tradition. Jazz standards are the essence of the jazz mainstream. They were played, interpreted and re-interpreted thousands of times. There’s a good reason – it’s great melodies, genius miniatures and a great starting point for improvisation. One can say that without these themes there would be no jazz as it exists today. But that does not mean that standards must be something permanent, unchanging, and not subject to change. Standards Trio is a line-up where musicians play jazz. Just. Without unnecessary fancies, but also without museum piety. Searching for a new quality, but without rejecting tradition.
