Mabe Fratti
Guatemalan cellist and songwriter Mabe Fratti has gained widespread recognition in the independent music circuit as a highly prolific and idiosyncratic artist. Her first releases explored a minimalist palette, focusing on the sounds of cello, voice and subtle electronics; with her breakthrough Se ve desde aqui (2022), Fratti began to turn towards more intricate arrangements reminiscent of third stream jazz, post-minimalist music and traditional pop. In 2023, she released the album Vidrio with regular collaborator Héctor Tosta as Titanic and A Time to Love, a Time to Die with the Amor Muere quartet; 2024 saw the release of her latest album, Sentir que no sabes, delving into rock tropes more than any her previous work. Fratti says she is inspired by doubt; she lists Scott Walker, Robert Wyatt and Oneohtrix Point Never among her favourite artists, but also Charly Garcia. Her music has received critical acclaim from Pitchfork, The Wire, The Quietus, XLR8R, Bandcamp Daily, NPR and the BBC.
