Lubomyr Melnyk is considered one of the greatest contemporary pianists and composers. Called the “piano prophet” for his dedication to the life of developing and improving new playing techniques for this instrument. Creator of Continuous Music – a piano technique that requires amazing technical skills and uses the full natural voice of the piano. Melnyk holds the title of the fastest pianist in the world – the Guinnes Book of Records recorded 19.5 notes per second in each hand. Maestro music is not about technical performances. Lubomir Melnyk’s compositions are characterized by exceptional lightness, his music descriptions often evoke comparisons to sound cascades, introducing both listeners and the performer to trances during concerts.
In Melnyk’s music you can find influences of classical music with Brahms and Liszt at the forefront, by minimalists such as Reich, Glass or Riley, mixed with music and philosophy of the Middle and Far East from Ravi Shankar to Zen and Kung Fu. Active since the 70s, Lubomyr Melnyk is the author of over 120 compositions, in recent years he has been associated primarily with the Erased Tapes label, an artistic home of, among others Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm. The last MaestroL album, released in December 2018, Fallen Trees, was also a celebration of the artist’s 70th birthday.
