From the circles of the Janus crew – the cultural collective which made the jump from Neukölln underground club Chester’s via New York Times to a series of events at Berghain – springs producer J’Kerian aka. Lotic. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Lotic is today operating out of Berlin and with their apocalyptic productions and eclectic DJ-sets they have rapidly left a mark on the city’s electronic music scene.
Lotic mixes the rhythms of hip hop and R’n’B with dystopian and technoid fragments, hacking into the flow, chopping and rearranging the elements. They respecfully dip a rough street sound into their very own futuristic jelly, throws in a Beyoncé sample, both triggering and transcending the expectations of what is so broadly called electronic dance music. Lotic’s performances are a hybrid between live concert and DJ-set: spectacular, unsettling, danceable.
