Lobe Block
The Lobe Block Terrassenhaus in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen is a studio house that combines creative work with a restaurant, a yoga studio and urban gardening. Raw concrete and wild botany should speak for themselves, because what grows in the Lobe Block needs as few rules as necessary and as much freedom as possible.
The unbuilt area of a former Deutsche Bahn site made it possible to establish a very unique architectural form: that of a large terrace house, which appears fully glazed towards Böttgerstraße and closed off with an overhanging front. At the rear, it opens up, also with large glass fronts, in a cascade-like manner towards the south. The building's top premise is to provide as much usable open space and area for greenery as possible, and the terraces are used as an extended garden area. They intertwine with the garden, which can be used by residents and in part by neighbors.
The initiator of Lobe Block was Olivia Reynolds, who had always dreamed of living a kind of country life in the city. Lobe Block was her project, which has made this desire possible and also creates many offers and free space for uses in which mindfulness and living together are paramount.
