In the recently opened Schwarzenberg Palace, new rooms have been reserved for short-term exhibitions of Old Masters art from the National Gallery’s Collection of Prints and Drawings that have replaced the former Graphic Art Cabinet. The opening exhibition presents, in two stages, masterpieces on paper and vellum from the periods of the Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque and Neoclassicism. In the first stage, drawings and prints of the Renaissance and Mannerist periods were shown; the second instalment is mainly focused on Baroque artworks. In both rooms of the Graphic Art Cabinet, drawings and prints will be on display produced by artists of the Bohemian and Central European Baroque – Karel Škréta, Petr Brandl, Václav Vavřinec Reiner, Michael Heinrich Rentz and Anton Kern, as well as outstanding exponents of Northern and Italian graphic art of the 17th and 18th century – Rembrandt van Rijn and Giovanni Battista Piranesi.
