The Summer Jazz Festival in Piwnica pod Baranami was organized for the first time in 1996 during the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Cellar under the Rams. The creator and director of the Festival – Witold Wnuk, inspired by the legendary Piotr Skrzynecki, presented in July a whole series of daily concerts in the Cellar. Year after year, the Festival expanded its formula by presenting, along with daily concerts at Piwnica pod Baranami, concerts at the Philharmonic, Cracow Opera, Radio Krakow, Manggha Center, all jazz clubs in Cracow, and great outdoor concerts and events – like New Orleans Sunday and Jazz Night. Currently the festival is the largest Polish jazz festival and one of the largest in Europe.
