Lesser Town Cemetery

The Lesser Town Cemetery was built during a plague epidemic in 1680 on the site of a vineyard. At the same time the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built, which was replaced by the Chapel of the Holy Trinity in 1713. In 1831–1837 it was converted into a church according to the design of Kilian Ignaz Dienzenhofer. From 1787 the Lesser Town Cemetery served the entire left bank of the Vltava River. In 1884, this function was taken over by the cemetery in Malvasinky and the cemetery began to deteriorate. In 2016, the memorial site underwent an extensive revitalisation, during which the wall in Plzeňská Street, the road network, greenery and gravestones were restored. In the future, lectures, concerts or other cultural events could be held here.
