Landscapes & Bodies: Gold and Coal
*"Gold and Coal" takes you to the ancient deposits and areas of armed conflicts taking place in the areas where various raw materials were extracted.
The performances from the Landscapes & Bodies series were produced by the international art collective Kötter/Israel/Limberg in collaboration with Polish artists, performers and researchers as well as local mine workers from Indonesia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Germany and Papua. The Warsaw show will take place in the Rainbow Studio, which is located on the premises of the Institute of Industrial Chemistry, where fuel samples of a Polish oil company are developed.
During the show, the audience goes through twelve rooms where they learn the stories of extraction from different latitudes. Each room is a different story, each performance is a journey of the audience through a different landscape. The stories told by the performers are accompanied by audio and 360° video documentaries, allowing the audience to see the mining sites scattered around the world. The scenography consists of 12 interconnected rooms (wooden containers measuring 6,058m in length, 2,438m in width and 2,54m in height). In some of the rooms 360° films are projected, viewed through VR glasses, in others live performances take place or audio recordings are played. The audience enters the installation in groups of several people, at ten-minute intervals. The duration of the show in each room is about ten minutes. The total projection time is 120 minutes. Tickets are sold for slots in half-hour increments.
