Kulturforum
With museums, libraries and concert halls, the Kulturforum near Potsdamer Platz represents a multifaceted place of art, culture and research. After the Second World War and the division of the city, the vision of establishing the cultural center of West Berlin was to be realized here. Planning and execution of this project began in the late 1950s. By the time of the city's reunification in 1990, the New National Gallery and the Museum of Decorative Arts had been built for the National Museums in Berlin. After that, due to the new situation in many respects, such as the merging of the National Museums in Berlin in the eastern and western parts of the city under one roof, the architectural designs underwent changes, according to which the Picture Gallery, the Museum of Prints and Drawings, the Art Library and the special exhibition halls were built.
At the Kulturforum, collections of the National Museums in Berlin are shown that house works from the European modern era. They thus connect in terms of content and time to the exhibitions on Berlin's Museum Island. The world-renowned art-historical collections of the Gemäldegalerie (Picture Gallery), Kunstbibliothek (Art Library), Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings), Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts) and Neue Nationalgalerie (New National Gallery) visualize the history of ideas from the early modern period to the present day with their rich diversity.
