Kopalnia Węgla Brunatnego Konin

Kopalnia Węgla Brunatnego Konin is a lignite coal mine in the Konin Lignite Basin. The mine's head office is located in Kleczew. KWB Konin was established during World War II, when the Germans started the construction of the mine together with a processing plant - a briquetting plant. In 1945, on the basis of the existing infrastructure, the Morzysław opencast was started, initially for the needs of the local population and from 1946 also for the briquetting plant. In 1953 the Niesłusz opencast began its operation. In July 1955, the mine was officially named Kopalnia Węgla Brunatnego "Konin". Based on the lignite deposits, the "Konin" power plant started operating in 1958, and between 1967 and 1969 the "Pątnów" power plant was additionally built. The area of the mine covers several counties and a dozen or so communes. The fuel and energy industry based on it determines to a large extent the economic development of the Konin region.
