The Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Šumperk was part of the Dominican monastery, which was founded at the end of the 13th century. The original Gothic form of the church was wiped out after a series of reconstructions. Its present Baroque form is the result of reconstruction after a fire in 1669, the side chapel of St. John of Nepomuk was added around 1730. The extremely valuable Baroque furnishings were created from the second half of the 17th century to the mid-18th century. The frescoes by the Unicovo painter Ignác Oderlický in the side chapel of St. John of Nepomuk also date from this period. In 1784, Emperor Joseph II abolished the Šumperk Dominican Convent. The monastery was converted into a barracks. The church is owned by the town of Šumperk. The restoration of the church began in 1990. The church was consecrated and since April 2005 it has been used by the public for cultural and social purposes. In 1958, the monastery and the church were included in the list of cultural monuments.
