– José Cura: Modus (world premiere)
– Joaquín Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra
– Ariel Ramírez: Misa Criolla (world premiere of the symphonic version)
– Ariel Ramírez: Navidad Nuestra (world premiere of the symphonic version)
Ariel Ramírez (1921–2010) is one of the most significant Argentinean composers. Misa Criolla and Navidad Nuestra are the two best known compositions from his vast legacy. Such is the venerability of Misa Criolla for Argentineans that even Pope Francis afforded himself its performance in St. Peter’s Basilica. Both compositions are originally scored for a chamber ensemble, however by the hand of fate it was none other than José Cura who received the unique permission to orchestrate the work. Hence, we can look forward to the world-premiere of Ramirez’s gems in a new symphonic form with José Cura as soloist. The FOK artist in residence is adding his own new piece made to the evening’s line-up whilst the phenomenal Italian guitarist Aniello Desiderio will make Smetana Hall glow.
Meeting with the artists: 5. 10. 2017, 6.15 p.m. – Pattiserie Hall, Municipal House, free for visitors of this concert.
