She started out with releasing her first single Blue Lights on Soundcloud and seeing it hit 400,000 plays within a month. Soon after Drake singled out her second single, Where Did I Go as his favourite track of the moment in Entertainment Weekly. She was nominated for BBC Music Sound in 2017 having only released one EP and her first LP got the Critics' Choice award the year after. At the moment Jorja Smith, despite her young age, is widely considered as one of the most promising figures in contemporary R&B. Her career In early 2020, Smith began hosting a 12-part BBC Radio 3 show called Tearjerker, which focuses on the healing power of music. She released two singles that year: By Any Means and Come Over featuring Popcaan. On 14 May 2021, she released her third extended play Be Right Back. Written and recorded over a two-year period, the EP sonically adopts experimental song structures and lyrically revolves around the complexity of ideal womanhood, relationships and self-awareness.
