Iva Bittová

Iva Bittová was born in 1958 into a musical family in Northern Moravia in Bruntál. Her mother Ludmila was a teacher in a nursery school and her time was especially dedicated to her family and singing. Her father Koloman Bitto was a body and soul musician who played many instruments, mostly double bass and dulcimer, guitar and trumpet. His career was playing the double bass at the Opava Theater Orchestra and later at the Radio Orchestra of Folk Instruments in Brno.

Bittová's music is a blend of rock and East European music which she describes as her own personal folk music. Her violin playing mixes different techniques, including playing the strings with various objects and plucking them like a banjo. Her vocal utterances range from traditional singing to chirping, cackling and deep throat noises. She puts her whole body into her performances, drawing on her theatrical skills.
