Irvine Welsh: Noční můry s čápem marabu
Michal Lurie, Jan Hájek, Dan Kranich, Romana Widenková
Roy Strang is in a coma. Unable to communicate with the outside world, he delves deeper and deeper inside himself. His dreams are as adventurous as hunting game in Africa and as oppressive as the life of an innocent boy in the jungle of an Edinburgh suburb. Above all the surreal visions, however, the reality of the disturbing events of his recent past, full of violence, frustration, thuggery and, above all, deep guilt, emerges more and more clearly.
Marabou Stork Nightmares, one of Irvin Welsh's lesser-known, yet darkest and most complex works, asks both disturbing and tricky questions through his typically harsh yet revelatory language. What forms can the merry-go-round of cruelty take in a world whose main law is the right of the stronger, where passionate brutality is the only source of intoxication and words like humanity or forgiveness have no place.
The Marabou Stork is an ugly, vicious and monstrous bird of prey, feeding mainly on flamingos. It does not hesitate to devour eggs or chicks, resorting to unimaginably bestial tactics in its hunting and handling of its prey. And humans? What can be said about them?
This production contains scenes of explicit sexual violence and profanity. In view of this, we do not recommend the performance for audiences under 15 years of age.
