Innerwoud

Innerwoud is a one-man band of Belgian double bass player and composer Pieter-Jan Van Assche. After playing in several bands ranging from folk to neoclassical, he started performing mainly solo, giving the double bass all the space to speak and sing. The music is often described as ambient, drone and neoclassical. The drones build on each other live, layering different textures and sounds produced by the double bass. The result is a melancholic trip that takes you through vast landscapes or anonymous darkness, while the subtle melody sheds a humble light on it all.

Innerwoud has released a full solo album (Mirre, 2015), followed by collaborations with Treha Sektori ("*Grashelm, 2017") and Astrid Stockman (Haven, 2018), written music for several dance performances and is now part of Dance of the Seven Veils, a contemporary opera directed by Aïda Gabriëls and featuring Colin H. Van Eeckhout and many others.
