Icons - a set of symbols that bring the impenetrable complexities of digital processes into the realm accessible to our still neolithic minds. Dragging a text file to the trash can gives us a useful illusion. In fact, nothing goes anywhere, the garbage can does not exist, even the file is not a compact physical entity inside the computer - and yet by performing this codified, ritual dance of clicks, taps and swipes we enchant digital processes to bring us successful results.

The exhibition will examine this shared cultural imaginarium of digital gestures, symbols and artifacts, pulling them into physical space, allowing for direct physical confrontation and (also literally) looking at them from a slightly different perspective. We deal with the illusion of the permanence of the digital record, turning the selfie into a pile of gravel. We ask how much attention we sacrifice to technological corporations by indulging in the ritual of perpetual scrolling. We perform an act of iconoclasm of sorts - deconstructing the iconic, iconic Nokia 3310 - the "entry drug" of our current smartphone intoxication. We put digital icons into baroque frames, depicting the emotions associated with them. With a bar of progression stopping as a result of our gaze, we ask whether technological progression goes hand in hand with a rejection of magical thinking.
