Hypnodrone Ensemble

Hypnodrone Ensemble was formed in Berlin in 2014 by two guitarists associated with the Canadian post-rock scene – Nadja's Aidan Baker and Thisquietarmy's Eric Quach. Their collaborative project, which also includes a loosely defined group of other musicians, creates hypnotic compositions based on drones and polyrhythms played by multiple drummers; while visibly rooted in the tradition of krautrock, they remain resolutely non-idiomatic, prioritising clinical sonic analysis over reconstruction. Hypnodrone Ensemble debuted with a self-titled live EP in 2014; since then they have released four further live albums and four studio albums, the most recent of which is 2023's The Signal in the Signal, inspired by Tony Conrad and Faust's classic LP Outside the Dream Syndicate.
