About Grzegorz Turnau
Grzegorz Turnau is a Polish composer, singer and poet who, over the course of his nearly forty-year career, has gained a reputation as a key continuator of the sung poetry Eastbloc folk tradition. In his songs, he uses the texts of the leading Polish poets of the 20th century (including Baczyński, Brzechwa, Leśmian and Herbert), contemporary artists and his own; his music draws on smooth jazz and the history of Polish song, in particular the works of Marek Grechuta and Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz. Over the years, Turnau has been awarded nine Fryderyks, two Wiktor awards or the Grand Prix of the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole. He is also a composer of theatre and film music; since 2016, he has been the musical director of Warsaw's Lalka Theatre.
