At the heart of the musical performance Gramophone, an original script written and directed by Marianna Arzumanova, lies the true story of the relationship between a prisoner in a Jewish concentration camp and a Nazi prison guard.
A cheerful children’s tale about Hebrew letters and the Yiddish language is woven into the fabric of the narrative as the protagonist, a woman separated from her child, is telling him the story in her own thoughts. Letters, words, books – the eternal symbols of Jewish destiny - become the elements of the scenography as well.
A children’s fairy tale about magical Hebrew letters from an old Gramophone and the power and wisdom contained in them embodies the highest manifestation of the undying freedom of the human mind. The songs are performed in Yiddish and are accompanied by music by Evgeny Kissin performed by piano, violin and clarinet.
The play is performed in English.
