Fotografiska Berlin

The new Fotografiska Berlin location is scheduled to open in 2023 on almost 5,500 square meters in the former Kunsthaus Tacheles in the Mitte district of Berlin. Fotografiska will use the entire building, which has three floors of exhibition space, a restaurant, event venue, bistro, bakery, lounge and rooftop bar. lounge and a rooftop bar. In its 115-year history, the building has survived all the radical political and social changes in this city. It was built as a department store, used by the National Socialists as a party office, in the GDR it was taken over by the Free German Trade Union Federation and later also by the NVA. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, artists' organizations saved the building from demolition and established the name Tacheles. By adopting the Yiddish word "Tacheles", which stands for honest, straightforwardthe building symbolizes Berlin's new cultural freedom after reunification and has become a historical landmark.
