The Faculty of Arts is one of the largest faculties of the University of Ostrava. The faculty consists of twelve departments, half of which focus on teaching philology, while the remaining departments specialise in selected social and other humanities such as psychology, sociology, history, philosophy, history of art and cultural heritage, Czech literature and literary science.
An integral part of the faculty is the scientific and research activities carried out by four scientific and research centres. Thanks to them, academic staff and students can participate in important domestic and international scientific projects. The university also has its own bookshop where is the vast majority of books produced by the Faculty of Arts. The buildings of the faculty are located in the very centre of the historical part of Ostrava. They include libraries, a study room, a student club and a student pub located in the courtyard of the faculty.
