Provenienzwerkstatt (German)

The provenance workshop for Bestandsaufnahme Gurlitt is a multimedia-equipped laboratory in the exhibition, which is supervised by speakers of the Museum Service Berlin.

Provenance research examines the history of objects of public and private collections. The research of provenances of the Schwabing Kunstfund includes historical political and ethical questions about the practice of art collecting and combines topics such as persecution, confiscation, degenerate art, remembrance practices and restitution.

In the provenance workshop, visitors have the opportunity to work together with speakers on questions concerning the task force Schwabinger Kunstfund, on expropriations in the Nazi era and on provenance research. You can deepen the history of works or explore the provenance of everyday objects.

The provenance workshop has computer-assisted workplaces where visitors can get an impression of the abundance of the Schwabing art discovery with the help of the speakers and also learn what provenance research means in the age of the internet.
