Executioner's House

The building of the renaissance burgher house is the only preserved building of this type in Trenčín, not damaged to a greater extent by later reconstructions. It represents a characteristic burgher house with a round porch, in which both living spaces as well as the economic-production part and the black kitchen were located.

The Executioner's House or the "House of the City Executioner", as its traditional name suggests, is historically and urbanly associated with the administration of justice and imprisonment. It is not entirely clear how justified this connection is. According to some data, at the end of the 19th century, the town was occupied by a city cob and for some time there was also a prison. Some state that in the 16th - 17th century it actually served as the residence of a city executioner.
