Ewa Miecznikowska

Soloist of the Lyon National Opera Orchestra. She was born in Krakow in a family of visual artists. She began her cello lessons at the PPSM in Cracow in the class of Prof. Maria Drozd, and then continued at the F. Chopin State Secondary Music School (today's POSM II) in the class of Prof. Krzysztof Okoń. In her high school years she won first prize at the National String Instruments Competition in Elbląg and at the Chamber Music Competition in Kalisz, where she co-created the trio with Mariola Cieniawa and Kazimierz Olechowski. The ensemble was prepared by Prof. Antoni Cofalik and Prof. Irena Rolanowska. In 1983, the artist began her studies at the Academy of Music in Krakow in the class of Professor Witold Herman. In the same year she was a laureate of the D. Danczowski National Cello Competition in Poznań. She graduated in 1987, receiving a diploma with honours and a scholarship for further studies with Ralph Kirchbaum at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. In 1990 she became a soloist at the l'Orchestre de Principado de Asturias in Spain, two years later she took up the position of cellist with the Lyon National Opera Orchestra, and in 1999 by decision of Ivan Fisher, then music director, she became a soloist with the Orchestra and works there to this day.

She is a laureate of competitions organized by The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester as part of the International Cello Festival (Webster Quartet Award and Farn Hill Cello Prize) and the Pierre Fournier Award granted by the Foundation. Ewa Miecznikowska cooperates with the Orchestre de Paris and lectures at summer courses at the Vanderbilt Academy (USA) and Aix en Provence (France). She regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician. She is involved in projects that bind music and medicine. She plays the French cello from 1888 performed by Paul Blanchard.
