Era Jazzu: Grit Ensemble

Grit Ensemble was created in 2013 as a result of a joint initiative of students, graduates and lecturer at the Poznań Academy of Music. Together with the leader - double bass player Patryk Piłasiewicz - an interesting collective of improvisers fascinated by the music of Krzysztof Komeda was created. The band's area of interest includes Komeda's less-known compositions and their contemporary interpretations including both classical jazz ballad and mainstream forms, free jazz and even electronic experimentation. The compositions prepared by Grit Ensemble are endowed with jazz mood and reflection, they are more than just jazz songs. Each of them is a trace of a past world, a record of a seemingly elusive, but flawlessly perceptible atmosphere of freedom and the alchemy of creation. The album was made in the Krzysztof Komeda Studio of Radio Mercury. It was there that Sextet Komedy recorded the music of its time in the mid-1950s. After half a century, Poznań musicians have rediscovered a subtle, somewhat forgotten map of the beautiful Polish jazz era that has just begun in Poznań.
