Dionizy Płaczkowski

Dionizy Płaczkowski is a Polish tenor. He began his musical journey as a soprano soloist, recording seven albums and performing solo soprano parts in oratorios and operas at international festivals and on stages such as the Terme di Caracalla in Rome, the Filhamornia Berlin and the Concertgebouv in Amsterdam under conductors such as Daniel Oren and Edward Higginbottom.

Yet he gave up singing for several years in search of another way of life. He only returned to it after studying international relations, taking up education at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, in the class of Robert Gierlach. During his studies, he sang the leading tenor roles in Joseph Haydn's Orlando paladino. He also created the parts of Lensky in Peter Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin at the Świętokrzyska Philharmonic in Kielce, the Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów and on the chamber stage of the Grand Theatre-National Opera in Warsaw. Dionizy Wincenty Płakowski has sung, among others, the parts of Isaac in Alois Späth's Abraham and Isaac (part of the performance The Confessor at the Studio Theatre in Warsaw), Kazimierz in Stanisław Moniuszko's Hrabina at the Baltic Opera, and in Igor Stravinsky's The Wedding at the Meeting of Cultures Centre in Lublin. His repertoire also includes oratorio works, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem and Joseph Haydn's Stabat Mater. The singer also recorded Cavaradossi's aria from Giacomo Puccini's Tosca for the soundtrack of the HBO series Blindfolded by the Lights, directed by Krzysztof Skonieczny and produced in 2018. In June 2019, he appeared as Prince Yamadori in the celebrated staging of Giacomo Puccini's Madame Butterfly at the Parade Square in Warsaw, singing alongside Robert Alagni, Aleksandra Kurzak and Andrzej Dobber. In 2021, he won a televised competition for tenor voices – the Battle of the Tenors for the Roses.
