Der Weg einer Freiheit and Downfall of Gaia have announced two joint concerts in Poland.
Der Weg einer Freiheit (“The Way of a Freedom”) is a German extreme metal band from Würzburg, formed in 2009 by Tobias Jaschinsky as vocalist and Nikita Kamprad as guitarist and principal songwriter. After the release of two studio albums – Der Weg einer Freiheit (2009) and Unstille (2012) – Jaschinsky left the band in 2012 and Kamprad took over vocals. He now performs alongside guitarist Nico Rausch, bassist Nico Ziska and drummer Tobias Schuler. They have released two more studio albums – Stellar (2015) and Finisterre (2017) – through Season of Mist. Der Weg einer Freiheit have toured extensively since formation, sharing stages with bands such as Wolves in the Throne Room, The Ocean and Heaven Shall Burn. They identify with black metal, but also embrace other musical influences and lack some traditional features of the genre, such as Satanist lyrical themes.
In 2008 Anton Lisovoj (bass guitar, vocals) and Dominik Goncalves dos Reis (guitar, vocals) decided to establish a band Downfall Of Gaia and create music full of melancholy, sadness, depression, nihilism, but with a certain amount of aggression and mystery. The reviewers named their style post black metal, which also includes interjections of sludge metal, atmospheric rock and even vulgar crust punk. Germans themselves have colourfully compared what they create to a dark wall, which tirelessly moves forward, gradually absorbing the listeners along the way. The work of the German band has also absorbed the heads of the legendary Metal Blade Records, who a few years ago offered Downfall Of Gaia to sign a contract and where they have stayed since – being one of the most recognisable acts refreshing the heritage of such bands like Ulver and Agalloch.
