Cults
Cults is an American indie pop music group formed by the duo Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion.
The American indie scene took a liking to Cults as soon as they released their eponymous debut in 2011. The prestigious Best New Music label awarded by Pitchfork helped them to do so. Singer Madeline Follin's voice is impossible to overhear and the melodies of songs like Always Forever and Go Outside are impossible to get out of your head. But the alt-pop duo certainly aren’t just suffering from nostalgia, their songs are now scoring on TikTok, the viral track She Knows featuring J. Cole has over half a billion plays on Spotify alone - and it's not the only one from the Cults catalogue.
They've been invited to tour together by the Pixies and Vampire Weekend, a sample of their song Go Outside was used in Outside by The Weeknd back in 2011, they've shared a song with rapper Freddie Gibbs, they've collaborated with star director Jim Jarmusch, appeared on Jimmy Fallon's show and played on the stages of festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.
The duo's fifth album To the Ghosts will be released on 23 June 2024 and sees the duo collaborating once again with Shane Stoneback (Vampire Weekend, Sleigh Bells).
