Crywank

Crywank is a self-described “anti-folk” band hailing from Manchester. Appealing largely to the sadcore genre, the band was formed in 2009 while vocalist/guitarist and founder James Clayton had apparently “never played guitar before”. The band’s first release came about in 2010 with the full-length James Is Going To Die Soon. It was then followed up by 2012’s Narcissist On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown and 2013’s aptly named Tour Demos 2013. 2013 also saw the release of Tomorrow Is Nearly Yesterday And Everyday Is Stupid, which saw the band gain more popularity. 2014 followed with the EP Shameless Valentines Money Grab, and the release of some early Crywank demos from 2009-2012. Their first album properly recorded in a studio, Don’t Piss On Me, I’m Already Dead, was released in 2016. Crywank announced in 2019 that they are intending to break up after a world tour in the summer of 2020.

In 2021, Crywank, despite an earlier announcement, announced that their eighth studio album Just Popping In to Say Hi would be released. In March 2022, the band ended their hiatus and resumed a postponed farewell tour. In May 2023, they completed a three-date U.S. tour and also released the single Don't Listen to This Song, which featured Guard Petal. In February 2024, the band announced that despite the previous farewell tour, they would not be breaking up and would be adding a new member, bassist Jules from Guard Petal, who had previously toured with them in 2022 and collaborated musically.
