Paul Schäfer and Olli Soikkeli are both desirable solo guitarists who have performed across Europe and the USA. They met at Rataplan Theater, Antwerp, in 2012 and recorded their first album Kouvola with bassist Arnoud van den Berg soon after this. Kouvola was recorded without post-production in a wooden cottage near a frozen lake in Kouvola, Finland. Noah Schäfer, who performed at Theater Hybernia as a guest of gypsy jazz artists Stochelo Rosenberg and French colleagues Angel Debarr and Tchavol Schmitt during Khamoro 2018, takes over the contrabass in this trio at this year’s Khamoro. Hot Club d’Europe adheres to the pure and honest gypsy jazz tradition, which is owned by Paul Schäfer as a descendant of a famous musician family, while also giving the songs a distinctive touch with their original interpretations.
