The conference and exhibition “En quête d 'archives / In search of archives” questions current ideas and practices of the archive in postcolonial constellations. Archives in former colonial contexts are still characterized by limited access, scattered documents and repressed stories. At the same time, contemporary art and research practices have opened new avenues for acquiring, bringing together, and visualizing diverse traces and memories in ways that create new meanings and potentialities of the past in the present and future. The event aims to provide a platform for discussion on current policies, changes and potentials of post-colonial archives and to facilitate an exchange between different scientific and artistic practices and approaches. The archive in its material, metaphorical and imaginary dimensions is thus understood as a space in which both historical narratives and ongoing absences are critically questioned, as well as emerging new forms of knowledge, research, connection and artistic creation. The event is public and takes place in French, English and German with simultaneous translations.
