Friendly Fires

Eight years have passed since the last album Pala by Friendly Fires was released. The synth pop trio from Hertfordshire has made an ascent unlike any other. The debut album was nominated for everything that matters: NME Awards, Brit Award, Mercury Prize, you name it.

Originally, Ed Macfarlane, Jack Savidge and Edd Gibson came from Hardcore before proving on their self-titled debut that dance, electro and disco on the one hand, indie and post-punk on the other hand, do not necessarily contradict one another. Their aforementioned record Pala followed, a hybrid of cool summer breeze sound, old-school disco and hedonistic demo, as Friendly Fires have once described it themselves. Acclaimed performances around the world and at all major festivals proved that such statements are by no means exaggerated.

Later the band claimed that they wanted to turn to new music, but not another pop album like Pala – then it became quiet. And then, out of nowhere, the singles Love Like Waves and Heaven Let Me In – co-produced with the old heroes of Disclosure last year – and just now Lack Of Love and Silhouettes were released. That was followed by a legendary appearance at the Glastonbury Festival, and that was when everybody knew: Friendly Fires are back.

In August, their third record, Inflorescent, will be released, full of cool dance music, which alternates between a fall back into the 80s, then pumping the future again with modern beats. An album between laser show and street party, as made for a summer at the beach club. With unbelievable nonchalance, Friendly Fires have spanned eight years, as if they had just chilled on an island for a few days and are now ready for big news again. In November, the trio comes to Berlin for an exclusive show.
