Andreya Triana

Andreya Triana is one of those singers whose voice immediately gives one goose-bums. Her smoky voice, which rises from the depths without exaggerated melismas and raises into the air, carries so much soul. Her third album Life In Color has just been released by. On this one she presents herself as an emancipated diva and an accomplished songwriter. The eleven tracks are about self-empowerment, self-confidence, overcoming social barriers and a lot of love. Overall, the album is no longer as experimental as the debut Lost Where I Belong from the year 2010, on which Triana has really let off some steam, or its successor Giants of 2015. Instead, the Londoner presents herself as alternating poppy or hymnic soul queen, who uses her voice very purposefully. The production is finely spun and dynamic, the instrumentation almost classical, even if the beats often speak a different rhythmic language. One can clearly see that in the past Triana has often collaborated with producers and DJs such as Flying Lotus (Tea Leaf Dancers), Mr. Scruff (Hold On), Breach (Everything You Never Had) or Bonobo (who also produced her first record) and lent them her voice for their music. Somewhere between the overblown sound of the 70s and the modern sound framework of the 2010s Andreya Triana occupies a special high position. In October she will come to Germany as part of her tour.
