Grown up in Newham, East London, Alfa Mist began his music career as a Grime and Hip Hop producer. Inspired by the virtuosity of the visionary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, Alfa Mist entered the jazz world in college. The self-taught pianist and part-time rapper was inspired by jazz and world music, which can be discovered through his samplings.
His obsession for Hans Zimmer’s atmospheric film soundtracks started at the age of 23 with the Nocturne EP (2015), where he mixed melancholic jazz harmonies with alternative hip-hop and soul. You can also listen to guests like Tom Misch or Jordan Rakei from the London scene.
After joint collaborations and small projects, the young artist is now showing all his abilities. Even the title of his debut album Antiphon shows the changing themes and the supposedly contradictory combination. While listening to the interplay of various instruments and theme within his work in a particular entertainment swoop – the inspiration for the album will come through a discussion with his two brothers. He lets the instruments speak for themselves, the Kaya Thomas-Dyke gives the song a buttery soft, throughout melancholy and melodic undertone.
