Cleopatrick
Cleopatrick is a Canadian rock duo originating from Cobourg, Ontario. The band consists of Luke Gruntz (vocals and guitar) and Ian Fraser (drums), who have known each other since childhood. Formed in 2015, the duo is known for their raw sound, combining elements of alternative rock, hard rock, and grunge.
From the beginning, Cleopatrick has built their audience through an independent approach to music creation and distribution. In 2016, they released their debut EP titled 14, which featured the first tracks that defined their style. A breakthrough came with the release of the single Hometown in 2017, which achieved significant success on streaming platforms and brought the band international attention.
In 2021, they released their first studio album titled BUMMER, which was self-produced and includes tracks such as Good Grief, Family Van, and The Drake. The album captures the duo’s signature sound—simple yet energetic arrangements with an emphasis on rhythm and guitar riffs. The lyrics often address themes of identity, adolescence, and societal pressure.
Their music is often categorized among the current representatives of the so-called new wave of rock, alongside bands like Royal Blood and Highly Suspect. The group is known for maintaining creative control over their production, visual style, and marketing. Their work is frequently associated with the New Rock Mafia community, an informal collective of fans and independent musicians with whom Cleopatrick collaborates.
